A Houston woman was on her way to New York on Friday when #SpiritAirlines kicked her off the plane after her hungry 2-year-old son wouldn’t stop crying.⠀⠀⠀⠀

Mei Rui was traveling to a cancer research study in New York. Before the plane doors closed the mother started to breastfeed her child. Flight attendants immediately told Rui to stop and put the child in his seat. Rui asked for a little more time but the attendants told her the flight was almost ready to take off. ⠀

Rui listened to the attendant although she hadn’t finished feeding. The child began to cry, prompting flight attendants to tell Rui to leave. Confused, Mei then asked what she had done wrong. The attendants claimed she didn’t comply with their instructions.

Eventually, all passengers were asked to exit the plane. Rui’s son had been crying for 25 minutes straight. Upon exiting the plane, she was met by police officers and a #Spirit rep, who told her she wasn’t allowed back on board because she “was not compliant.” Rui posted footage from the incident showing attendants asking her to leave. In the caption, she wrote: “The only 'non-compliance' is that my son was crying for 25 minutes straight after I force-buckled him into the airplane seat.” In a second post, Rui said the flight had already been delayed for three hours due to a de-icing situation, which is why she began nursing. The woman questioned the reason behind her removal, but the airline officials laughed in her face.

As the dispute over the removal continued, officials refused to give the woman an answer. However, the incident ended with Spirit Airlines writing a statement that said: “Our records indicate a passenger was removed from Flight 712 after refusing to comply with crew instructions several times during taxi to runway and safety briefing.”

The family received a full refund but won't be flying with Spirit Airlines again.
