Trump Calls U.C.L.A. Player’s Father an ‘Ungrateful Fool’

The father of one of the three UCLA basketball players who was arrested in China for shoplifting is refusing to say thank you to President Donald Trump for his role in getting his son released from China.

Lavar Ball appeared on CNN on Monday night with host Chris Cuomo to discuss his recent public spat with President Trump after Ball insinuated that Trump had nothing to do with his son’s release from prison.

Almost immediately, the interview went from being a normal news interview to a circus show as Ball’s comments made no sense and left Cuomo confused.

“Why won’t you say thank you to the president?” Cuomo asked. Ball responded by insinuating that because President Trump did not take his son home on Air Force One that he does not deserve a thank you.

Meanwhile President Donald Trump took to Twitter to rail against LaVar Ball.

In his burst of early Twitter posts on Wednesday, Mr. Trump returned to a favorite topic: professional football players kneeling in protest during the national anthem. Mr. Trump has excoriated the N.F.L. for allowing players to make the gesture, which he sees as disrespecting the American flag. On Tuesday, The Washington Post reported that the league was considering a policy change under which players would stay in the locker room during the playing of the anthem.

“That’s almost as bad as kneeling!” Mr. Trump tweeted.
