Nationwide Industrial Action: National Emergency Management Agency Workers Embark on Strike

Staff of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Thursday embarked on a nationwide indefinite strike.

The industrial action followed directives given to them by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) in Abuja.

The strike was sequel to a threat that was issued by NEMA employees in a protest letter written in September this year over the non-payment of their allowances, among other issues.

The letter was reportedly written by the Secretary-General of ASCSN, Isaac Ojenmhenike, and was addressed to the President, Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and other senior government officials.

The Abuja headquarters of the agency was shut down by the workers, as they all insisted that they were not going to work until the management of the agency listened to their demands.
