Alleged Ritual Killer Escape: Policeman arraigned for dereliction of duties, angry youths protest in portharcourt

Reports have it last week that a Uniport undergraduate by name Ifeanyi allegedly r*ped and killed an 8 year old girl for rituals. The suspect got apprehended after security operatives launched a search on the missing girl.

The father of the girl, who was part of the search and rescue team since his daughter disappeared on Friday, had identified the suspect as his cousin.

The UNIPORT undergraduate, had reportedly cut off the vital parts of the eight-year-old girl before he was apprehended by security operatives on Saturday last week.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Nnamdi Omoni, had said that the suspect was on his way to dispose the remains of the girl before he was arrested.  Omoni warned parents to monitor the movements of their children and be wary of those they allow to have access to them.

But lately news have it that the suspect, an undergraduate of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), escaped from police custody after he was arrested for allegedly raping and killing the eight-year-old girl in the state. 

A Port Harcourt Magistrate court in the River State capital has remanded Sergeant JohnBosco Okoroeze in prison custody.
Sergeant JohnBosco is standing trial for the negligence of duty which led to the escape of the ritual suspect who allegedly raped and murdered the eight-year-old girl.
After remanding the police officer in prison custody on Thursday, the Chief Magistrate, Andrew Jaja, ordered that the case file be handed over to the Department of Public Prosecution.
The case was adjourned till September 13 for the defence and prosecution to adopt their written addresses.

The suspect escaped  from the police custody barely 24 hours after his arrest.
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Mr Zaki Ahmed, had said the suspect fled while he was being interrogated and prepared to be moved to where he would be detained at the state’s Criminal Investigation Department.
Mr Ahmed, however, noted that a man hunt has been put in motion by the Police Command to arrest the fleeing suspect.
He blamed the escape on the negligence of the police officer who has been remanded in prison custody
The Police said they have begun a search operation to apprehend the suspect and assured the public that the search would soon produce meaningful results.

Some youths in Eliozu area of Port Harcourt have staged a protest against the escape of the ritual killer suspect from police custody in Rivers State.

The protesters, however, barricaded a section of the road in the state capital on Wednesday to condemn the dastardly act and the escape of the suspect.
They described the escape of the suspect was unacceptable and called on the police to produce the escapee.
