The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) has appointed a Nigerian doctor, Olakunle Akinboboye, as the chair of its cardiovascular disease board. 


It is the first time the 81-year-old body would appoint a black chair to head the cardiovascular disease board.


Akinboboye will be responsible for certifying all deserving cardiologists in the United States. Heading the 12 members of the board from across the country, Akinboboye will also carry out periodic knowledge assessments of all practising cardiologists in the US.

An 18-year-old Cheerleader who killed her newborn and buried the child has been described by her attorney as a 'very good person'.
According to Fox News, the suspect identified as Brooke Skylar Richardson was charged with reckless homicide on Friday after remains of a newborn baby were found in her backyard.
Richardson was accused of killing the baby after a medical exam determined the child “was not a stillborn baby,” Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell told Fox News.

At about 2pm yesterday 25th of July eyewitnesses called the Toll-free emergency line 112 to report that a building had collapsed at No 3 Massey street, Lagos Island. The Emergency responders immediately left base for the scene. As at 7pm last night, 5 children and 10 adults had been rescued. 20 hours after the collapse, the recovery operation is still ongoing by the emergency responders of the LASEMA Response Unit and other responder agencies searching through the debris with Heavy duty and light rescue equipment to ensure that they are no other victims trapped in the rubble.
Once the site has been declared stable, reclamation will commence.

A Connecticut man has been sentenced to 120 days in prison after he killed his girlfriend’s pet betta fish.
Juan Vega, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree breach of peace in Bristol Superior Court Tuesday. One count of animal cruelty against him was dropped as part of a plea deal.

Vega was arrested on April 27 after he showed up unannounced at his girlfriend’s home and began arguing with her, accusing her of being unfaithful in their relationship.Vega told his girlfriend, who was not identified, that he would gather his belongings and leave.

Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of NCC said this in a statement by Mr Tony Ojobo, the Director, Public Affairs of the commission in Abuja on Wednesday.
The EVC was speaking when he received, Mr Boye Olusanya, the Chief Executive and the Vice-President, Regulatory Affairs, Mr Ibrahim Dikko of 9Mobile in his office in Abuja.
“Resolving the issue was partly to forestall any form of disincentive to the FDI from UAE hanging,’’ he said.
