Osun University Shooting: Student protest the brutality of 2 colleagues


There is confusion at Oke Baale area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, as some policemen allegedly opened fire on some students of the Osun State University while playing football on Saturday morning.

Our correspondent gathered that two students were hit by the bullets.

One of them identified as Abiola Kazeem, was said to have been hit on the stomach and was rejected at two hospitals before he was taken to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo where he is now being treatment.

Anti-Ambode Protesters Storm Tinubu’s House

Scores of residents of the Olokonla community in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State yesterday appealed to the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to intervene in the demolition of their houses.

The protesters made the plea when they stormed Tinubu’s residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday.

Metuh Asks Court to Allow Dasuki Testify in His Trial


Olisa Metuh, a former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asked the federal high court, Abuja, to subpoena Sambo Dasuki, ex-national security adviser (NSA), to testify in his trial.

At the resumed hearing on Wednesday, Emeka Etiaba, counsel to Metuh, reminded  Okon Abang, the judge, of a pending subpoena before the court to invite Dasuki as the next witness.

However, Abang advised that both the defence and prosecuting counsel to liaise with the authority holding Dasuki to release him to appear in court.

The source told NAIJ.com that it was evident that Pastor Enoch Adeboye may have made the decision to retire due to internal pressures which may have been battling his continued stay as General Overseer of the church reputed to be one of the largest in Nigeria.

The Kaduna State Council of Imams and Ulama, on Monday called on the Federal Government to arrest and prosecute those who exacerbated the crisis in Southern Kaduna through inflammatory and false statements.

The council made its stand known at a press conference in Kaduna addressed by its Chairman, Sheik Abubakar Babantune and Secretary, Aminu Ibrahim.

It said that the inflammatory utterances of religious and political leaders in the area had led to the “merciless massacre of hundreds of Hausa/Fulani Muslims in the area.”

FG Suspends Law that Forced Adeboye to Step Down

The Federal Government on Monday suspended the controversial Corporate Governance Code which was issued on October 17 by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.

The suspension was disclosed in a statement by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Okechukwu Enelamah.
In the five paragraphs statement issued by the minister’s Strategic Communication Adviser, Constance Ikokwu, the minister said the code was suspended in order to carry out a detailed review of its application.

Fayose slams FG for plans to divert flights to Kaduna


Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has kicked against the decision to divert Abuja-bound flights to Kaduna over repairs of the runway in the airport at the nation’s capital.

Highlighting instances of insecurity in Kaduna, Fayose recalled the clash between soldiers and members of the Shi’ia sect over the obstruction of the convoy of Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff.

The federal government had announced Kaduna international airport as the alternative within the six weeks that Abuja airport would be closed.

Arik passengers stranded in Kaduna Airport for 4 days


Several passengers, including children, were stranded at Kaduna International Airport since on Tuesday, following the failure of Arik Airlines to airlift them as scheduled.

Some of the disappointed passengers made the complaint to the Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, at the airport during the on-the-spot assessment of the facilities on ground at the airport.

They lamented that they had been parading the airport since on Tuesday just to board Arik air from Kaduna to Lagos to no avail without any explanation or apology from the airline officials.

Police arrest, fly journalist to Abuja over Facebook post

Some plain-clothes policemen on Friday arrested and whisked to Abuja a journalist based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Jerry Edoho.

The young journalist, who is the Deputy Editor of Ibom Nation Newspaper, a local publication, was arrested by the security operatives and forcibly taken to the Federal Capital over a post he allegedly put up on his Facebook page involving Dana Air.
Edoho, had while reacting to a photograph of a purported crash involving a Dana flight heading to Lagos from Abuja in which he was tagged, sought clarification from friends on his list to confirm the authenticity of the story.

Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led government of Osun has spent a total of N14.2bn to clear all salary arrears in the state. This was revealed by the governor who made the confirmation saying the amount was paid out by his government in less than two weeks before the end of December 2016.
