Nigeria's Electricity



Federal Government discos to meter high end user known as maximum demand customers before Nov 30.
NERC says the directive is without prejudice to metering all classes of customers as default from discos would attract sanctions from Dec. 1.

Alleged Money Laundering



The EFCC arraigns former governor of Adamawa state, Umar Fintiri over alleged theft, breach of public trust and money laundering.
Fintiri, who is also a former speaker of the Adamawa state house of assembly pleaded not guilty to charges and was remanded in EFCC's custody.


According to the findings, when Fintiri became the acting governor, Adamawa State’s debts amounted to N8.7bliion but within four months, the profile rose to N13.85bliion.
Following the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako and his deputy, Bala Ngilari in July 2014, Fintiri became acting governor as the then Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
Nyako allegedly left a balance of N1, 957, 045, 82 in the state government project account with a bank.
But Fintiri directed that N1.9 billion from the account be released to the state Ministry of Works on August 27, 2014.
It was the same funds that landed Fintiri in trouble.

MTN Nigeria has won the frequency spectrum license for the 2.6GHz band as the sole bidder in the auction exercise by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, has annulled the election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue a certificate of return to Samson Ogah, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, who contested the governorship ticket with the governor.

Alleged Forgery: Saraki, Ekweremadu, others granted bail



The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, and two others, accused of forgery, have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
They were granted bail after their arraignment but Justice Haliru Yusuf ruled that they should be detained at the Kuje Maximum Prison in Abuja pending when they meet their bail conditions.

Ann LePage, the wife of Maine’s governor, Paul LePage, has taken a summertime job as a waitress at a dockside seafood restaurant near her and husband’s Boothbay home, catering to tourists to supplement the couple’s income. Paul’s salary is the lowest in the United States at $70,000 a year.

We cannot afford to pay the N1.2 billion as requested-Minister of Finance



The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun on Thursday, said the ministry cannot afford to pay the N1.2 billion requested by its workers, while she confirmed that the Federal Government was already borrowing funds to be able to pay the N165 billion a month needed to cover civil service salaries.

Demand for unqualified retraction of false statement-Aisha Buhari



The Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari on Wednesday demanded a full retraction of a widely-circulated material distributed by Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, in which he claimed to have uncovered how Mrs. Buhari was allegedly mentioned as having transferred funds to a convicted former U.S. lawmaker, Williams Jefferson.
In a warning letter dispatched through her legal representatives, Mrs. Buhari said Mr. Fayose’s action was directly responsible for the publication of the “very wild and unfounded” allegations in the media.

Former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi Sentenced To Life in Prison

An Egyptian court on Saturday, June 18,  sentenced former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi to life in prison for leading the Muslim Brotherhood and 15 years for stealing secret Egyptian state security documents.
The court acquitted Morsi of charges of having supplied Qatar with classified documents but sentenced him to life for leading an unlawful organisation, his lawyer Abdel Moneim Abdel Maksoud told AFP.
