Read what former spokesperson to former pres. Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, has to say about fuel scarcity in Nig

In an article titled "The Truth about the Fuel crisis", former spokesperson to former pres. Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, said that it's a shameful thing for a country like Nigeria to still be experiencing fuel queues when smaller countries like Togo, Benin Republic, Botswana and even Swaziland never experience such.

He drummed support for all the measures being taken by the GMD of NNPC and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu. Read his article which he shared on Facebook after the cut...

The minister of state for Petroleum is a Nigerian I know by reputation only. When he was appointed I actually wondered why on earth will a man in his exalted international position and pedigree come into the murky arena of the Nigerian oil business. It can only be patriotism.
Since he assumed office I have noticed a high level of professionalism and candour.
But Nigerians abhor the truth. The minister said a few weeks ago that it is cheaper to import fuel than process our crude locally. I thought that should be obvious to all discerning minds. Our newest refinery is 35years old.
The capacity of the refinery to fractionate
Crude reduces drastically with age.In its best form you get about 51% PMS per barrel of crude refined. But at the current ages of our refineries we hardly can do more than 35-40%.
Therefore our policy of setting aside crude for local refining is outdated and counter productive and should be STOPPED.
Secondly the minister said this present fuel crisis will tarry till May and all hell was let loose. The Hon Minister is right.
He quietly informed the Nation that NNPC is now responsible for 100% of our fuel imports. The reason for this anomaly is not farfetched.
We consume 40m liters of PMS daily. At about $645/tonne that comes to about 55cents per liter is $22m/day. Which importer and which bank in Nigeria of today can open $22m daily?!!!! Not even the Almighty Nnpc! So that is the real cause of the scarcity. The truth is what the minister said, its not going away soonest.
The only reasonable, cost effective and efficient way of ensuring Nigerians get petroleum products regularly and continuously, without further complicating the unavailability of the dollar and its continued stagnation of the national economy, is by :
1. Scrapping the PPRA
2. Stopping the allocation of crude daily for local refining.
3. Allocating appropriate volume of crude to the oil Majors under a transparent oil swap arrangement.
4. Invest in and improve the facilities of discharging PMS in all our Ports.
5. Completely deregulate the downstream
Sector of the petroleum and stop the federal government from selling petrol. Previous Nigerian governments have sustained this practice to their detriment. We need not continue it especially in the face prevailing economic hardship. It is not done anywhere and citizens are the ultimate beneficiaries.
It is shameful and embarrassing that small countries like Benin Republic, Togo and even land locked countries like Botswana and Swaziland do not have fuel queues.

Drowned African migrants found off Libya shores

Libyan Coast Guard on Friday, March 25 discovered tens of drowned bodies of African migrants from different nationalities, off Al-Garaboulli shores, 75 km eastern Tripoli.

The Head of Coast Guard in Al-Garaboulli, Abdullatif Al-Munser, said the decomposed bodies that came ashore Al-Garaboulli suggest that the boat, which those migrants were on, drowned days ago, adding that it is very difficult to identify the dead migrants as their bodies are totally decomposed..

He said they are probably from Eritrea and Niger. Local media recently warned of the resumption of the illegal immigration boat trips to Europe through the Libyan coast with the start of spring, which is regarded as a good time for migration by sea.The peports also indicates that there are at least 300 thousand African immigrants in Libya waiting to seize a chance to cruise for Europe on the human-traffickers’ death boats.

Incredible! Mum presumed dead by her family for over 40 years found alive and well (Photos)

An American mum presumed dead by her family for more than 40 years has been found alive and well living under a different name.
Lula Ann Gillespie-Miller disappeared in 1974 after deciding she was too young to be a mother and signing over her three children to her parents.
The family never heard from her again other than a letter she sent several months later, which had a post mark from Richmond, Indiana.

But in January 2014 Indiana State Police Detective Sergeant Scott Jarvis took up the case after being contacted by Gillespie-Miller’s family through America’s Doe Network website, which assists families with missing persons investigations
The veteran cop discovered a case of a deceased unidentified woman, buried in an unmarked grave, found in 1975.
A search warrant was obtained in December 2014, and a body was exhumed for DNA analysis.
The sample was matched to Gillespie-Miller’s biological daughter, Tammy Miller, for comparison but was found to have no link.

But as he continued looking he began concentrating his efforts upon one missing woman.
He began to investigate the trail of a woman with similarities to Lula Gillespie-Miller, who had lived in Tennessee in the 1980s, then later in Texas, ”police said.
“Further investigation led Jarvis to a woman living in a small town in south Texas since the 1990s, possibly still living under an alias.”
Jarvis contacted Texas Rangers in the area and had them visit the woman’s home.
“It is believed that she had at times lived under an alias, but also along the way had been married and remarried,” Indiana State Police Sergeant John Bowlin
When questioned she admitted her name was actually Lula Gillespie-Miller, now 69 years old, and said she is originally from Laurel, Indiana.Although she refused to say why she left she said she was prepared to talk to her daughter and gave police permission to give her contact information to Tammy.
“We sat for five minutes with our jaw dropped,” Tammy said.
“It’s like something out of a movie.
“You think 40 years, you haven’t heard anything by now, the chances are slim.
“You sit and you analyse the picture. Do I have her eyes? Do I have her cheekbones? Do I look like her at all?”
Gillespie-Miller told police she “felt she was too young to be a mother at the time”.
Police said she didn’t commit a crime by leaving her home in 1974, and still reserves the right to remain anonymous.

Nigerian Lawmakers Increases MTN Fine To $15.6 Billion

MTN Nigeria fined $5.2 billion in 2015 by Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) is facing a possible hike to $15.6 billion in a bizarre turn of events.

Nigeria’s House of Representatives is about to hike the fine slapped on MTN Nigeria for failing to deactivate the SIM cards of some 5.1 million subscribers as stipulated by an NCC directive.

The NCC initially fined MTN Nigeria $1,005 for each unregistered subscriber totaling to $5.2 billion but a 25% fine reprieve after appeals meant MTN only had to pay $3.4 billion. The NCC immediately increased this bill to $3.8 billion (35% reduction of the $5.1 billion) blaming the hike on a typing error.

The House of Representatives said the fine imposed by the NCC and the subsequent reduction following MTN Nigeria’s leniency appeal was not in accordance to stipulated laws.

Hon. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma said: “MTN ought to have been fined under both Section 19 and Section 20 respectively with a cumulative penalty of N3.12 trillion, and not N1.04 trillion, which is a gross violation of the combined reading of the NCC Act.”
